Today, I want to talk to you about confidence. Most people are trying to build their confidence backward. They say they are trying to find the confidence they need, but what if confidence isn’t something you find?
One of the biggest misconceptions I see among accountants and high-stress professionals is that they are thinking this:
"Once I feel confident, then I'll take action."
But that's not how confidence works.
Confidence doesn't come before action.
Confidence comes because of action.
Think about any skill you've developed throughout your life.
You weren't confident when you started.
You became confident because you practiced.
Because you learned.
Because you made mistakes.
Because you gained experience.
Yet when it comes to our personal lives, many of us expect confidence to magically appear before we make a decision, set a boundary, have a difficult conversation, or pursue a goal.
So we wait.
We wait until we feel ready.
We wait until we're certain.
We wait until we're confident.
And sometimes we end up waiting far longer than we should.
