Welcome Back…You’ve heard that being grateful has many benefits. It increases happiness, changes your mood, allows you to get better sleep, causes less fatigue, and leads to better physical health. Who doesn’t want this in their life, right? What if you knew that if you did one simple thing you would see a change in your business and your life? Would you do it? Most people would say yes, but what about you?

Let’s start with taking a look at the number of people you connect with on a daily basis in your business. Is it just you, or do you have additional employees that work for you? How many customers do you work with, and do you talk to your vendors frequently? Throughout the course of just one day, you might have the potential to reach one or many different individuals. If you knew that just by incorporating a little gratitude, each of these touch points could be improved. You could have better employee morale, a happier work environment and even a higher customer satisfaction rate.

When practicing a gratitude technique, studies show that it will help you be healthier, happier and more successful as an individual. So, why not incorporate this simple gratitude technique in your business as well? Business is all about relationships. You already know you are making an impact on many different people throughout just one day. What if you showed each person you interacted with one simple thing that you are grateful for? How would you make this person feel? What if it was an employee, a customer or one of your vendors? This could lead to higher employee retention rates and productivity or even referrals from satisfied customers which could lead to additional income.

There are so many ways you can start incorporating gratitude in your day. You can take time each day to sit quietly and reflect on what you are grateful for. Starting a journal is a great way to do this. Once you know what you are grateful for, take some time to act on it. If you are writing how grateful you are for your employees working overtime to get a project done, send them a handwritten thank you note. If you are grateful for the work you are doing for one of your customers, let them know the next time you talk to them. By taking action and moving these grateful thoughts out of your head or from your journal, you are making an impact on others. This will build a strong relationship which will not only benefit you, but it will benefit the recipient as well.

I know you are probably thinking, but Chris, you said this wasn’t going to be something that was going to take a lot of my time, right? Well, this is what I am suggesting. Take about 5 to 10 minutes every morning and think about 3 things you are grateful for in your life. Just 3 things. It doesn’t have to be business related; it could be something in your personal life as well. Remember, gratitude impacts you personally and will carry through to your business. Once you have these 3 things, write them down. Whether you write them in a journal, on your computer, or even a sticky note, it doesn’t matter. Do what is efficient for you. Next, I want you to take at least one of the three things you are grateful for and act on it. If you are grateful that your wife made a good meal, let her know. If you are grateful for an employee going above and beyond their normal job, let them know. If you have a vendor that met a deadline you needed, let them know. You don’t need to make this action something that takes a lot of your time. A quick text, a note or even a phone call is all it takes. Once you have a quick and easy system down for this, it shouldn’t take much time out of your day. They say that incorporating gratitude in your day can help you be more productive, so this may actually increase your free time, and you’ll not only have some additional time in your day, but you’ll be in a much happier place and in a much better mood.

I am going to challenge you to continue to do this for the next 30 days. During this holiday season, why not spread some happiness and gratitude? This is a perfect time of the year to spread holiday cheer. Try to do this challenge with someone in your family or join us in our Facebook community and let us know what you are grateful for. Just hearing what others are grateful for can help you to discover what you are grateful for as well. Some of your grateful thoughts may be that you have control of your own business, you enjoy the flexibility your business brings you so that you can take time off when you need to, the ability to work from home or even a small goal you just achieved.

I hope you are able to incorporate at least one thought of gratitude in your life as a result of listening to this podcast. I promise if you start to focus on one gratitude thought, the next will come easier, and before you know it, your 3 things you are grateful for each day will be right at the top of your mind. You’ll start to recognize them throughout your day, and you’ll be a much happier and grateful person. When you are happier, you’ll lead a happier and healthier life, and this will definitely impact your success in your business as well.
